Does anyone have experience with the use of antidepressiva?
« on: November 22, 2020, 03:46:56 PM »
I posted this in the group 20-29 years old:

Hey folks,

I take antidepressiva since 3-4 weeks and I am in day 22 of No PMO (I want to the hardmode hopefully 6 months to 2 years).
But the antidepressiva still dont effect me. I dont feel better.

My questions are:
-Does anybody have a success story of antidepressiva AND rebooting with NO Fap/No PMO?
- My worries are, that the antidepressiva block the effect of rebooting (because they spread neurotransmittern dopamin etc), Maybe the brain cant reboot himself naturally than, when taking antidepressiva?

I am feeling so depressed and sad. :(
I cry very often (maybe 4-5 times in the week).
I am suffering very much and I wonder when No PMO and antidepressiva will help me, so I can be happy again.
I suffer with erectile disfunction since 10 years now.

I almost fapped for more than 12 year. I am 25 years old now.
I try to meditate, take cold showers, read books, go for running, drink lot of water, i deeinstalled instagram, facebook, tinder, etc.
I try to eat cleaner.

But nothing works :(

How long I have to wait? I can´t live like that anymore. I don´t know what to do.

One thing I am critisizing me for is, that I am using media (smartphone, etc.) for more than 4/5 hours, sometimes 9 hours a day.
Cause I read a alot of NoFap and watch a lot of football. Maybe I have to do it less....

Thanks for any help!!

It's possible to experience mood changes during a reboot. You are depriving your brain of the dopamine hits it was used to getting when you used porn.

If you have been diagnosed as suffering from depression by a qualified doctor, then follow the doctors advice.

I don't know why taking antidepressants would affect your reboot. I don't think they would, but hopefully somebody else with more experience can offer some advice.

Just stop using porn. Your erectile dysfunction will improve if it is porn induced. You have to be patient. If you've been masturabting to porn since you were 13 years old and have suffered with ED since you we 15, I imagine you have had limited real sex experience. If this is true, it might take quite some time to recover if you have PIED.

But stop watching porn now. You've had ED for 10 years. This is long enough! You don't want ED for another 10 years.

Good luck with your reboot.

Hi friend,

Sorry to hear you are going through hard times. What you are writing about is a very delicate matter. You are facing two major problems, and they both can be intertwined. But there is hope for you, both problems can be fixed.

First, PIED can be cured, but it will take much more than 22 days. It's could that you are heading for 6 months to 2 years of hard mode, this could fix your ED. Many guys have healed by doing hard mode (or no arousal, which means no porn, no masturbation, no fantasy and no sex either, basically no sexual stimulation at all) even quicker than that. But stick with it, it should work.

As for antidepressants... That's where it gets tricky. It depends on what antidepressants you are using, but remember that most antidepressants will give you sexual side effects, especially SSRIs, which are the most prescribed antidepressants. The worst part about it is that those effects can still remain after you stop using them. That's what is called Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD). You can read about it here: https://rxisk.org/post-ssri-sexual-dysfunction-pssd/

Of course, depression is a medical issue, so doctors are, in theory, the ones from whom you should take advice at the moment. But... Many doctors don't know about PSSD, or do not realize that sexual dysfunctions can cause depression. My doctor wanted to put me on Zoloft in January, but I refused, because it's one of the worst antidepressants for sexual functions. It's well known that the majority of people who use Zoloft experience sexual side effects. So I don't believe that we must blindly listen to our doctors when it's about those issues. Many doctors are looking for an easy fix, and therefore prescribe medication way too often - medication that can affect one's life in a dramatic way...

That being said, not everybody experiences sexual side effects with antidepressants. Also, I believe that severe depression is a bigger threat to you life than ED. Many people who are going through severe depression think about killing themselves. Obviously, it's much better to be alive with a reduced sex drive than not being able to function in your daily life and wanting to kill yourself. That's how I see it: avoid antidepressants as much as you can, but if your depression is so bad that you start wanting to kill yourself, then consider using them, because they might help you. As I said: it's much better to be alive with a reduced sex drive than not being dead.

I don't recommend you to do like me, but here's what I chose to do when I went through depression (I was diagnosed with depression in October 2019). Instead of using antidepressants, I decided to use anxiolytics and sleeping pills when I was really low (but only when needed). Those types of medications also have very bad side effects, and they are not supposed to be used for long periods of time. But I was too scared about the possibility of suffering from PSSD (and maybe my depression was not as severe as yours, who knows). So I refused to use antidepressants. Also, remember that there is always hope: I really felt desperate all the time, I could hardly sleep and I wanted to kill myself. This lasted for a few months, and then things gradually got better. Today I am doing okay (I'm not totally happy, but I am not depressed anymore). Depressions go away, they usually last a few months. So hold on tight, because you will get out of this state. And just do what you think is best for you.

Good luck.
