Food for thought

I am realizing that we have to treat this like any other addiction. A recovering drug addict does not go hang out with the same people that enabled the behavior, at least not if he wants to be successful. Similarly we have to distance ourselves from enablers, and people that add stress to the situation pushing us toward relapse. And draw closer to people that support our goal of beating the addiction. Seems obvious but it?s so easy to not see porn addiction as actual addiction and not realize how harmful it is to our minds and bodies. Comments anyone?

I think most people here will agree that it's definitely an addiction. The more difficult part is that in society many people do not see it as such. Since porn is so easily available and so many people are watching it it's not really seen as a problem. Even though there is a huge increase in ED caused most likely by the availability of porn, people still aren't really moved by it. For me that realisation came when I had my first meeting with a psychiatrist about this. I explained my situation in advance and told how it ruined parts of my life and how I wanted to get rid of it. In the talk he kept trying to convince me that watching porn is just a regular thing and it was my wife who has a real problem.

In the end it's up to us to decide how we overcome this. I advice you to talk to people you know about this problem, even though it might seem scary many rational people still want to be helpful and understand if it's a real issue to you. If people can't accept that porn is a problem for you in your life, you don't really need them in your life. It's about that you accepted that it's something negative in your life that you want to get rid of, what others might think is up to them.
