I discovered this site through 16x9. A show that I never watch but
last night I did. I tuned in at same time as Gabe started talking.

It wasn't a problem during my adolescent or teenage years. It started
with the internet. I logged on for the first time in 1999 in my mid 20s
and immediately I started searching out porn. Porn addiction took hold
of me quickly.

It's has gotten a the point that my life has been gutted.

*Difficulty concentraing (scattered thoughts).
*Very easily bored by other things.
*Became socialy awkward.
*Became undisciplined.
*Many hours out of the day and late night veiwng porn.
*Easily loose track of time veiwing porn.
*Difficulty with sleep.
*Become unmotivated.
*Became an inactive/unhealthy person (putting on weight).
*No interest anymore in relationships (friends/romantic).
*Real life women don't sexually interest me anymore.
*Holding a conversation (mind wandering to porn).
*Employment and finances has suffered a lot.

I'm not sure if all that qualifies as effects from porn addiction but I'm
believing they are.

I don't remember what my life was like for me before internet porn.
I feel like I don't have an identity anymore. I want to know what
it is to have a life again.

Anyways my 1st step was to join this site. My 2nd step was to to download k9 web
protection so hopefully that helps controlling me somewhat. My 3rd step is to finish
familiarizing myself with this site and porn addiction better before I go any further
on here. I don't want to step on anybody's toes.

And I'm gramatically challenged. I apologize for that.

Hey Russ,

Welcome to RN. You seem to have a lot of the classic troubling symptoms that so many are plagued with. Being here should help you to help yourself. If you haven't done so yet, you should check out yourbrainonporn.com
That website will make a lot of things clear for you. Also, Gabe's videos are a great primer as well. Reading of others experiences will help you see how common this problem is. Good luck.

Welcome R.C.  You are in good company.  You are part of a community that understands what you are going through.  I concur that checking out the yourbrainonporn web site is a great step.  I would also consider finding a men's support group in your area.  There are SA chapters all over, and if you are open to a Christian-based group then check out the Samson Society.  Whatever you decide to do, I encourage you to not isolate.  That tends to be a recipe for disaster for most of us.  Again, welcome to the Forum!

Welcome, this community has helped me in my recovery from pornography and masturbation addiction. I hope that all men can be set free from this scourge!

Keep writing it is a big help I find.

Hi Russ,

There is hope and support here.  Personally, I have been blessed by the many comments and experiences shared.  We can help others too by reading other posts and chipping in as well.  The best advice I have received was to make the forum a hobby for a while.  It certainly helps get through the tough patches.

Cheers!

Welcome RC

Thanks for gracing us with your presence. Journalling is an underestimated resource, where you can chronicle the good and bad parts of a day. I find that what makes forums like this one special is that in most circumstances the experience is shared, even the non-addiction related ones. I hope we can all witness you transition from recovering to recovered.

Stay the Course

Same here.  I now have the feeling that this is not just "pie in the sky".  A PMO free life can be a reality.

Welcome RC. You'll find that the more you have to say on here, the more you'll learn. Oh, and from my personal experience here, there are no grammarnazis  :)

Welcome Russell, this is an addiction that can be overcome. You can get your life back, self back. It's a tough road, but it can and is being done.

Hey R.C., let us know how you are doing, whatever that looks like.  We are all in this together!

Yeah, it's been like 2 weeks, are you still with us bro?
When you jotted down your list of symptoms, I was pretty much reading the story of my life because of PMO.
