Rebooting: How long does it take?

I have gradually lost libido and erectile function over the last 10 years. It happens to coincide with when i had regular access to porn and masturbation. I have been a sex addict all of my life, and when i wasn't watching porn, i would cruise parking lots of shopping areas edging and exposing myself for hours a day, releasing feel good chemicals and tons of adenaline the whole time. I did this since i was a teenager up until i turned 40 at which time i added full blown porn addiction to the list(when i left my wife and family). In the last 3 years or so, i completely stopped the craziness of cruising (mainly because my libido and sensitivity were gone), but continued watching porn, even though i could barely get it up and the orgasms were anti climactic to say the least. I went porn free on Nov. 24. Haven't looked at it since. I've orgasmed maybe 8-10 times since then. It's been just about 5 mos. since i went porn free. I am now getting rock hard erections most nights. I have had no sexual contact with a woman since then. I can get myself erect by touch much quicker now (not fantasizing about porn, but thinking about a young lady i've been seeing),which is encouraging. I still don't really have much libido, and i am wondering how long before that comes back and spontaneous erections when i see a hot women or those situations. I feel i am making progress, but i don't feel confident to have sex yet. please help

There is no for sure answer to "how long will my reboot take" as everyone is different and there are way to many variables at play. However, it is great that you have seen some improvement already and I suspect that the 8-10 orgasms you had might have slowed progress down a bit, not sure though. Guys over 40 usually can recover in the time frame of 2-6 months, but there are always exceptions.

The fact that you can get erect to touch is a great sign, and in theory if you can get hard to touch then you should be able to get hard if a woman is touching you, unless some anxiety was at play.

I would go a few more weeks no PMO, and no P for the rest of your life. Sounds like you are well on your way to being rebooted.

i am wondering how long before that comes back and spontaneous erections.....

Most guys as you age no longer get "spontaneous erections" you develop boner control and only get an erection when you need one, when you are about to have sex. So you may get them you may not, I wouldn't worry about it, it sounds like you will be fine.

Hope that helps

I am 42 y.o. and have been rebooting for six months now. I don't expect to turn back into a teenager from rebooting and as Gabe said, getting random erections is not really something that we older guys "need". I need a working libido and a dick that responds to my real partner, the rest is not really relevant when we are talking about sexual function. And for that, the reboot works, at least in my case.

Also please keep in mind, that most guys need rewiring with real women to complete the reboot. Imo you should start working on that. Btw it is possible, that once you live a life without overstimulation, your libido will feel less "raging" than in your teen past or your porn past. That doesn't really matter too much as well, since the reboot can give you a mature sexuality - and not just be horniness of a dog.

Just my 2cts of course
