Wanking Since Woodstock; But I Stopped In 2012
« on: March 07, 2014, 11:12:04 PM »
Hello to all of my forum bro's.

I'll give you the Reader's Digest version of my story and build from there. I started masturbating after being shown hardcore (print) porn at the age of 14. I masturbated from 1969 onwards until December of 2012 when I stumbled into Your Brain on Porn literally in the middle of a porn binge. I saw the videos and have not watched porn since.

That was December 2, 2012. I had a masturbation relapse on December 27, 2012 and I've been celibate ever since. No worries, no blue balls, no problems. My journey to freedom was relatively easy, but there were challenging moments along the way.

Perhaps I should start off by stating a few things for the record:

  • My reasons for stopping PMO are not religious.
While I consider myself a Christian I do not think that masturbation somehow offends God. I do think that it is not good for a person, however, and I believe it has a negative effect upon healthy sexuality.
  • While I am currently celibate I am not anti-sex or an ascetic.
I don't have an intimate partner and I'm holding out until I am in an intimate relationship. I don't want casual sex, a f'k buddy, etc. I feel, from a lifetime of experience, that true satisfaction comes from sharing an emotionally close relationship with someone. Nothing else will do.
  • While I am a believer. I do not seek to impose my beliefs upon others.
I won't try to convert anyone to my point of view. If someone mentions a Higher Power in their journal I may choose to follow that line of conversation with them but I will not try to bring up the subject with someone that has not indicated that they believe in a Higher Power. Conversely, I do not want others to try to criticize my decisions in these matters. I will not criticize your beliefs, whatever they are, but expect the same treatment from others.
  • I have concluded that no masturbation is the way to go.
This is not a moral stance as such, I simply believe that one can either be wired to self pleasuring or wired to share sexual pleasure with a partner. It is my opinion that trying to do both just doesn't work.
  • ED and DE are symptoms of deeper problems.
Trying to reboot just long enough to repair ED is only part of the story. From my reboot and from the reboots of others I have come to believe that most porn/masturbation addicts are dealing with deeper issues. Sexual molestation as a child, precocious sexual activity, a fantasy life because of unhappy family circumstances, etc. These are things I've seen in the journals of others and some of these apply directly to my life. Stopping PMO unveils these deeper issues and allows us to deal with them, perhaps for the first time ever.
  • Breaking free of porn addiction will help you to lead a happier life with greater confidence and a sense of maturity that may have evaded you in the past.
I know that I feel like I am truly an adult for the first time in my life. Well . . . better late than never. :)

It's good to have you here.
You are the perfect example that even after such a long PMO period (43 years?) it is possible to break free.

Your reboot period is impressive (14 months?).

Please discribe your current state of mind and how it changed comparing to the PMO period, it will be highly motivating for guys like me (at the start of rebooting process).
Do you still have cravings for P or you completely free?

PS.: I guess you should make some post in the forum section called "Success Stories".  ;)

Not masturbating or looking at porn is the new normal for me at this point. I won't say that there are never cravings, but I've learned that I am in control and the default decision has become not masturbating. Over these 14 months I've developed a much more positive, much more loving, outlook on life. I've learned to love women for their inner beauty and have made some lovely friends along the way.

I still want a sex life, but I'm content to wait until I find a loving relationship.

  • ED and DE can be symptoms of deeper problems.
Rebooting helps either way. Some people are simply victims of Internet porn and become hooked by the endless novelty that Internet porn offers. Others have deeper issues such as sexual molestation as a child, precocious sexual activity, a fantasy life because of unhappy family circumstances, etc. These are things I've seen crop up in some of the journals of others and some of these issues apply directly to my life. Good morning LTE,

Hope you are well sir? I am pretty sure you are!
As well as can be expected for an old coot running on about ten hours sleep for the last two nights put together. :)

Likewise my friend, I hope that this lovely day finds you well.

It just keeps getting better. I've learned to ride out the ups and downs of life much more effectively without PMO.

As you are gaining strength everyday for last over 400 days you must be very strong as for now. :) I guess it is the feeling of being a real man.

As I am mathematician from education and work experience I think that gaining a strength being without PMO looks like log(x) function (attachment) - on the beginning you see big changes everyday (and it is also the most risky time to relapse) and after some days (hmm... 365 days?) your strength-gaining is almost flat, but it is still rising til infinity!

Great job LTE & never come back to porn!

Very cool Shake! That curve pretty much describes my experiences perfectly. The first weeks were weeks of profound change. The curve has flattened but there is steady progress over the long term. I will add that ogling and objectifying women began to wane after 150 days or so.

Thanks Shake.

How you doing LTE?
I see that you make a great effort to help all the people on the forum and I just want to let you know that I really appreciate that.

Again I have to ask the same question: Why don't I see your story in the section "Success stories"? For sure your story is great example of success story. :)

It's just a matter of time. I keep pretty busy on RN and, of course, I have to at least pretend I'm working from time to time, so I haven't had tie to write something worthwhile. Maybe someday.

Thanks for all of the kind words but it's not amazing, it's just me, finally, getting up to where I should have been at 14. :) It's how I want to live.

That sounds like a pretty mature 14 to me, but I guess kids are growing up faster nowadays. I continue to be amazed by all the young people on this forum who are trying to tackle this problem just as earnestly as us older folks are. Still, I don't know if there was quite this level of awareness of porn abuse/addiction back when I was a teen. Perhaps if I'd been fortunate to have been raised a teen in this era, I'd have come to this stage in my life sooner. But as a product of the 70s/80s, I sometimes wonder if I even had a chance. Oh well, better late than never, right? And as long as there are people like you here inspiring us all to be better men, I know I at least have a chance this time around.
