Exercise is not helping
« on: September 14, 2018, 07:32:22 AM »
Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum. I've been on a 9-day streak now and I wanted to ask for advice or insight into my problems with exercise. I've noticed that whenever I exercise my libido shoots through the roof and I have an even harder time resisting my cravings. I've weight-lifted on and off twice a week for about 6 months or so. I always train to failure, so it can't be that I have excess energy. As soon as I'm done with my training I usually end up feeling even hornier and really struggle to just relax and do something else. Should I wait with training until I've kicked the habit? I've never suffered from flatlining yet, but then I've never gone very long without porn (typically I watch once or twice a week) and don't know when flatline usually kicks in.

Any advice would be appreciated, though I would like to hear serious answers to the problem, not including "Just exercise man, it's better for you in the long run" type of advice.

All the best,

Alex

Hi Alex,
The weight training might release the same dopamine and endorphins you feel when you look at porn. However, since your pleasure -reward system in your brain is so wired to porn, you don't get the same amount from lifting. You feel you need more, but you've lifted to failure and can't go anymore so the next best thing is porn.
I'm also a body builder and workout to failure four times a week. The spike of dopamine from porn is so much higher than doing a 180kg dead lift let me tell you. But since porn fucks with the mind so much you can't get the same level of satisfaction.
Do you only fap to porn once a week? Since when have you been into porn? What other symptoms do you have ?
Un-fuck your life, quit porn now! Today!

You are probably doing strength training that hikes up testosterone hence the increased appeal to fap. Try to shift to endurance training for awhile at least until you get better adjusted and see if it works

I've been addicted (if it qualifies as an addiction) since I was about 12-13. However since I'm getting older the urges have disappeared more and now I can typically go a week without porn and not feel any big urges except for the occasional fantasy. If I am addicted now I'd say it's much better than when in my twenties, but since I've never tried staying off longer and have lacked the motivation (plus that I only recently watched Gary Wilson's talk and learned the side-effects) I haven't ever tried to quit. A few times a year I might binge a few hours (rarely more than 3-4 hours), but that's if I'm having a really shitty week. But it might also have to do with premature ejaculation. Thanks for the advice, will see if another type of training might do the trick.

What other symptoms do you have ?

It's hard to say really as I've had ADD for a long time and social anxiety since I was about 14, so it's hard to know what is due to porn. It has gotten better over the years but much of it was helped by medication for 10+ years which I'm now coming off. I have felt some of the symptoms return, but I don't let it stop me from being social. That said I do feel more anxiety after a relapse, hence my trying to quit for good.
