attempting a reboot
« on: July 28, 2018, 08:36:43 AM »
Hi, my name is Yonatan.

I'm 28 and just started my MA in biology. I never thought my porn and hentai use was a problem until reading "Your brain on porn" by Gary E Wilson M D. I have a scientific-driven mind and was sceptical at first. but now after a few days without porn, I realized that I have a problem. I deleted all sites and content from my computer but still having a hard time giving everything up. I sneaked a peek at my favourite site yesterday without masturbating. still having a hard time figuring everything out.
I'll start browsing the forum in the next few days and would appreciate any help and suggestions on dos and don'ts.

p.s. I'm dysgraphia so forgive me for any typing mistakes :)

Get another site. One on soccer, or cars or politics...just find another stimulus. No sneak peaks its called willful temptation when you feel like doing it. Once you go there it is no longer temptation, its acting out. Good luck!

this weekend was terrible. I didn't leave the house but kept occupied somehow. couldn't stop thinking about porn, it's occupying my thoughts all the time. I set my self f time goal for the reboot and all I want is to reach it to go back maybe my approach is wrong here I don't know what to do.

Hey bro congrats on joining the movement! If I could give any advice for long term results, I'd recommend changing your mindset a little bit and finding something to fill your time now that you took porn out of the mix. I'm in graduate school too, so I know how tough these changes might be.

For your mindset i'd recommend tackling this with positivity, it sucks but you're doing this for a good reason. Saying this is an attempt or that you'll see how this goes sets people up for failure, and I'm saying this as someone who failed a lot before hitting a really good streak. Every rough day is a positive step and should make you proud.

And for filling your time, I'd absolutely recommend exercise. As a bio guy, you probably already know that consistent and challenging exercise releases natural hormones of pride and accomplishment. I've found that it mirrors the reboot itself, and that through this process you can physically see yourself getting better. Working out also gives you experience in getting out of your comfort zone, which is something you'll need to do in order to succeed here.

Keep going bro, you made the right call!

Install filters, keep yourself busy with news, games, science, art, books and positive apps.
Longer you stay away from chemicals, more your brain buddy will heal up.
Life is tough.
Learn to live instead of numbing yourself by use of porn.

Recovery Will Come

Hey good luck!!! This may seem hard at first but you can and you will defeat this addiction!!!! I went on my first real rebooting process last year and went 10 weeks without masturbating or porn... I relasped shortly after by going back on social media... My advice to you is stay busy... Join a gym or any outside activities.... Studying, Reading or anything you enjoy to do thats productive.... You can do this!! I never thought I would make it to 10 weeks and I did... I'm starting my reboot again just now and we can get through this together.... Good luck!!

thanks all for the advice and support.

about two weeks in and feeling better, it's summer break now and I'm working on my project feels good to have something to do. trying to go out more but most people don't stay for the summer. I'm considering joining an exercise group to have something consistent that will drive me to work out more. also getting better at controlling my thoughts feels good to not have porn on my mind constantly. I masturbated to climax yesterday without porn or thoughts of it, not sure about the implications of it and didn't find anything here or at your brain on porn.

Wow, it's been long since I posted. Still doing good, exercise and friends kipping me busy, and I even went on a date for the first time in months. i still masturbate occasionally using my imagination mostly, still haven't figured out if its ok or slowing my progress, anyone has any insight or past experience with this?
I'll trie to post more and return to my private journal, which I've been neglecting. but so far I'm feeling good about myself.

another month went by and I'm still good, like some other things I tried to get rid of removing the stimulus seems to do the trick. I'm already halfway to 90 days  8). I want to ask my friends if they notice anything different, I don't see any change in my behavior or routine. and I still masturbate normally, just without porn...
