Are Chatrooms worse
« on: October 09, 2016, 08:52:48 AM »
Hey all!

New Here. I started the No fap journey on Dec 15 2015- nearly a year ago. In between successfully did a 90 day streak. Since then I have not looked at porn. But sometime in between -may be June - I told myself that  Chatrooms are ok and logged into chatrooms approximately once in 10 days or so.
But just day before yesterday, I thought I should quit them too because they provoke really weird fantasies that I would never indulge in real life.

What are your thoughts on this?

Quit the chatrooms for awhile and see if the fantasies go away.

If the weird fantasies go away then you know how they impact you and that you should probably stay out of them.

You just need to ask yourself if this is artificial sexual stimulation. To which I believe the answer is yes.

Fantasizing is the same as watching porn. It activates the same old neural pathways in your brain. You have the same dopamine responses and you are conditioning yourself to having sexual feelings while participating in a chat.

Some people here have issues with reading erotic novels and I don't believe that chatting is any different. You're reading text and interpreting it as something sexual.

You should really hold yourself to only experiencing sexual activities with other people (and not on cam to cam either). And if you get frustrated from prolonged periods without sex, then masturbate to feeling, without fantasizing.

Yes, avoid them. Took me a while to realise that sending flirty messages or having dirty chats is just as big a deal. I've stopped it now but keep getting urges to do it, which makes me think it really was an issue.

Yes, chatrooms are bad.

I foolishly told myself it was OK to read sexy stories if they had no images. Text is fine, surely? What a fool I was; those stories gave me all the same feelings about porn, and towards women (in a bad way). It was the same dopamine issue. I was almost edging, reading story after story, until I realised.

I dare say us addicts could have just as many problems browsing photos of fully clothed women. I am making damn sure I don't lure myself back onto the bad path again.
