Porn Addiction / Re: Good filters for Android phones?
« on: January 04, 2016, 07:18:18 PM »
I'm sorry to say something like this after you got yourself a New phone (great choice btw) but the best way to prevent porn is to stay away from it. Many guys here replaced their Smartphones with old flip phones but for a tech freak like me it seemed impossible first! But I managed to cut down my phone usage because I noticed that I was often hanging on my phone without any particular task to do which sometimes ended in a porn session. That's when I realised that my brain unconciously "persuaded" me to spend more time on my phone than I needed and wanted to because it associated phone time with dopamine rush!
That doesn't mean you have to go hard mode and live without Internet but be aware that real life is playing outside your display. Always ask yourself how much you need your phone (or notebook) and try only to use it when you really need to.

Hi I'm also using kids safe Browser and I think it's the best Software available for Android.
I'm also on cyanogenmod and you can change your wifi settings to run over the OpenDNS family shield IP so that it will only affect your phone and not your whole family  ;)!
Just go to wifi settings, long tap on your Router, change IP settings to static and fill in following IPs:
DNS 1: 208.67.222.123
DNS 2: 208.67.220.123
I assume you have root access so you should deinstall chrome and all other browsers (deinstall!!! Deactivating is not enough)! And deactivate your appstore! I even deinstalled my appstore and created a backup of it on an external SD card which I insert once a month just to update my apps.
Since I don't need the appstore that much it works perfectly fine for me like that!
To remove ads which are often triggering I use Adaway!

If you need help to setup those softwares feel free to PM me!! :)

As I look at your counter I see you're on Day 5... You were at 33 and found a way around the filter..

Filter are not the answer.. you found a way around it..

An addict needs to stop kidding themselves and make a change... Filters may be fun to evaluate and discuss.. but we need to take control of the addiction and stop kidding ourselves and realize the change COMES FROM WITHIN

Yeah I had to realize that you were totally right. I even was at Day 39 and I felt like nothing in the world could make me relapse. Then I accidentaly found a way how to bypass my filters and everything went so quick. It felt like I had no control over myself... like I was thinking about nothing and actually a lot time after that I realized what I've done.  Now after the relapse I'm feeling awful! I thought I could easily get to 39 again but in the last week I relapsed multiple times. My willpower seems to be at zero. Is that the so-called chaser effect?

Oh dear, exactly that just  happened to me :'(! I found an easy way to bypass my filters and suddenly my willpower was gone! Everything went so fast and now 5 minutes later i can't believe what just happened! It's terrible!! I guess the only way to fight this is hard abstinence from the Internet for the next weeks! :-[

Another big enemy for me is Google Images! 95% of my image searches were porn stars and the other 5% were stuff that i didn't really need! ;D

So I blocked any search engine apart from Google enforced safesearch and disabled the image search:
All you have to do is add tbm=isch to the blacklist of your blocking software. Like that Google search still works but without images! I did that in Procon Latte Firefox Add-on and redirected it to a blank space so that everytime you hit that Images button nothing will happen!

If you use chrome you can do what CrazyGopher wrote above!

Porn Addiction / Re: chances of me rebooting
« on: November 21, 2015, 05:12:28 AM »
Of course you can! :) my circumstances are exactly the same! The first 10-20 days are the hardest and after that it feels easier. Make sure to find an activity you love that does not involve your computer. For me that's working out. It helps me to release all my energy and free my mind.

Just keep on fighting!!!

Yeah of course software is not the answer but it does really help! Todays Internet can deliver you porn in 2 seconds.
It's like being an alcohol addict working as a bartender surrounded by all kinds of alcoholic drinks and all for free!

But i totally agree with you. If you don't have the right attitude no software in the world can save you!

Before i used porn blocking software I relapsed every 2 days because everytime I felt temptation I got weak! Now I am at DAY 33 and I can really feel the urges get weaker. The urges are usually coming in waves and when disabling all your softwares takes hours they are often already gone before you can look up porn. Also removing triggers helped me a lot. Out of my sight - out of mind! ;)

Yeah k9 for mobile phone is not working for my Android device and other softwares like net nanny aren't working smoothly but i heard its different for anybody! I recommend you apply the OpenDNS family shield! Also I'm currently using the Kids Safe Browser by kiddoware which blocks great and is totally ok for everyday use. It's not for free but you can test it for 30 days! If you like it you can purchase a license (or get one for free in the internet :-X)!

Greetings

Hey guys!

First things first, English is not my first language so I apologize for any linguistic mistake  :P
Of course no blocking software can replace your willpower while rebooting but for me they often prevented me from relapsing.
It's a lot easier when you know you can't access P immediately and disabling all the softwares and filters would take hours.
Also they help me keep my mind pornfree by removing temptation and triggers.
I would recommend to everyone of you to have Anti-PMO software on every device you are using - the more the merrier.

There are so many different softwares out there and from my personal experience I know that a lot of them are garbage.
That's why I need your help guys!  ;)  I want to create a collection of software for PC and Smartphone that works good, that is impossible or very time-consuming to disable and that we can recommend to every newbie who decides to quit PMO!

Just tell me what kind of software you are using and why it works for you and I will make a list! :)

From my point of view it's best to use many softwares that work in a different way so that they don't interfere with each other:

First you need softwares that block pornographic and adult content:
I guess most of you use K9 Web Protection which works great and is a must-have!
OpenDNS Family Shield is also great because it filters the content via DNS!
Also I use a Firefox Add-on called Procon Latte Content Filter that has a brilliant redirecting function!

You also need something to avoid triggers:
You need an adblocker like AdBlock Plus to block ads that show arousing content!
You need something that enforces SafeSearch to prevent you from searching for P subs!
And I heard there are intelligent softwares that can block images that show a lot of skin but I haven't found anything that works yet.
Maybe you guys know something that blocks visual triggers

And finally there are also softwares for time management, motivation and other stuff that might help for rebooting but I haven't tested any yet.

Whatever it is that helps you, feel free to tell me :)
