Youtube Relapse

So YouTube. I just spent my day and a good part of yesterday binge watching YouTube videos though none were explicit (cracked videos mostly). And honestly I feel like shit. I guess I consider this a relapse since I've been feeding myself a steady stream of dopamine for an entire day. This feels very disempowering, like at any low point I will unwittingly find something, anything to grasp onto for a dopamine 'fix.' I have to work tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that knocking me out of this cycle.

It's frustrating because youtube has so much useful content and I often use it for more educational purposes. I don't want to block it but then it's even more of a challenge when I have a day like yesterday where I'm feeling very off and a bit depressed and so I get sucked in.

Yep it really sucks. Honestly youtube has been my downfall a lot. But as you say it has loads of entertaining but also education videos... i can't really afford to block it with my k9 protection software. BUT you can watch very 'sexy' videos on it.

there are no innate circuits in brain for watching fails compilations on youtube so its not really same as watching porn. you should not look at wasting a day on youtube videos about cars and shoes as a relapse. yeah its still kind of sucks though but dont be too hard on yourself.

watching girls in leggings doing exercises for glutes is different story. there is difference in the brain.

Still, binge watching youtube videos, and searching for that easy dopamin hit is very similar, no matter what content.

This is true, and it makes me feel a bit better about it. Still, as Tomte mentioned, it's binging on dopamine either way. I think that you don't get as much from YouTube as you would porn, so it's kinda a slowed down binge. I've never spent a full day watching porn, any more than a couple hours would leave me completely drained, even during a relapse/binge session. I probably spent 8 hours on YouTube yesterday, and I felt like shit but not quite in the same way as a PMO relapse.

I just wish there was a way to block all but educational and instructional videos, but that's impossible. I think this experience has made it clear that I cannot use YouTube for any entertainment, just in situations where I need specific content for education/instruction.

You are not going to get near the same level of dopamine surge from watching Youtube videos as porn, not even close.

Having said that, internet addiction in general is still a problem ...the constant search for novelty still hits the dopamine circuitry.

I had the same problem, it's a dangerous place to be, if you are incessantly browsing the internet you are only a click away from porn, a click away from a dopamine surge.

So I cancelled my broadband at home, and on my phone, as i was addicted the internet itself, I was regularly on it from the moment i woke up until I went to bed, endlessly looking for novelty, It was tough the first couple months, but i got used to it, and i don't miss it.

You should consider restricting your access to the internet, not everyone can do it due to using the internet for work or study, but if you have no necessary need for home broadband I'd recommend cancelling it.

I only use the internet now in coffee shops, the Library and on public Wifi, it's only ever for an hour or so a few times a week, it's very do able, i have no access to porn at all either. Day 38 no PMO.

Peace.

It feels like you are trying to find an excuse to fully relapse because you " did it anyway".

Watching non explicit videos on youtube is not a relapse.

You can watch very sexual videos on youtube. Naked women doing X. Going to be careful what i saw to not tempt and relapses here. No doubt watching fail complication/non sexual videos is FINE. But for me all it took was the right thumbnail (there always is no matter what i search for) and i'm watching that video and MO to it or then deciding to go full out and watch porn because ''i've basically relapsed so i might as well enjoy it then start the ''REAL'' reboot tomorrow... i could go on. If you don't have an issue with that then don't worry.

I would honestly have done that already but I have roommates. I'm still not on the internet much and I don't really surf, it's just youtube that's the problem for me. I have pluckeye on my computer which is set to block youtube at certain times of the day but I still have access on my phone.

Been down that road already and learned my lesson. I know youtube is not as bad for me as PMO but I still think it's a problem and addictive in its own way. It's just a little more difficult to say "I'm going to completely cut youtube out of my life" than it is to say that about PMO, as youtube has definitely benefited me and PMO has never done anything positive for me.

I've had that problem in the past but I'm much more vigilant about avoiding trigger videos now. Watching non-explicit videos is fine in moderation, but I can't say that binge-watching for an entire day when I have other things to do is fine. I'm thinking about blocking youtube on my phone and that way I will only be able to watch on my laptop with limited access. Anyone have any suggestions on how to block youtube on an android?

I use "AppLock" to block most Apps. Including all internet browsers and the youtube app.

Facebook for me is another killer. All it takes for me is a girl from my old school who i always thought was hot to suddenly be wearing a revealing out and I'm thinking ''ah shit i can't miss out on this''... oh and don't forget the constant sharing of sexual prank videos and even BLOODY adverts have sexual content. Today i logged din from my family pc and saw some revealing bikini advert.
