Stormy Daniels on Jimmy Kimmel/the Ubiquity of Sex Workers

Hey everyone,

How are we all feeling in response to Stormy Daniels going on Jimmy Kimmel, if you have seen it?  I just saw it and I was disgusted, while at the same time finding it quite hilarious.  It feels like the Left is working so damn hard to push their agenda that it is almost comical.  (I am a liberal politically, but the movement has lost me completely at this point).  The interview just seemed bizarre.  I understand liberals hate Trump with a passion.  (As do I).  But I feel that a certain amount of self respect and polity should be demonstrated when you are in the TV business and that neither Stormy nor Jimmy showed any.

First off, why the hell is a porn actress being put on night time television?  It was not too long ago that liberals were decrying the porn industry as capitalist exploitation of women.  But now, apparently, sex work is something to be sympathetic or even supportive of?

Second, shouldn't a talk show host/comedian show some amount of composure, let alone wit or charm?  I didn't see any.

Lastly, aren't they doing exactly what Trump did in sensationalizing on our tv screens?

I really never wanted to know the size of Trump's pickle.  I don't think anyone wants to know that bit of information, but we ended up getting it anyway.

No matter what you think about Trump, I have to ask, how does any of this help the situation?

Not sure why sex work is viewed as something immoral or not needed - there are plenty of people out there who are not lucky enough to be able to attract someone for sex (whether it's by looks, money or whatever!), and obviously long-term celibacy clearly creates a lot of emotional problems.  I'm not justifying incels, but people with sex related problems have had to hide for far too long. Of course it's causing them a problem... why wouldn't it?? It''s a natural desire.

People say that Sex is not a necessity... but that''s only because they're viewing it from the perspective of 'life v death'. (ie,, it won't kill you) But why not from the perspective of the "experience of life itself"?? Would you like to go through life not experiencing sex??? Of course not... i

As they say, the only thing worse than dieing a virgin.... is living like one!!

I didn't see the interview, but I do follow articles about Ms. Clifford in print when I see it.

The porn industry really likes taking the successful porn actresses and having them as ambassadors to show that it doesn't hurt women.  Jenna Jameson is another one.  Of course, the ones who end up with stable careers from it are less than a tenth of a percent (if not a hundredth of a percent), but they don't tell you about the thousands upon thousands of young women who end up broken, alone and afraid after just a few months in the business.

There are very good things to see in Ms. Clifford's story.  She's digging in her heels and not letting herself be walked on in her current situation.  She's been physically threatened a number of times, and she isn't running in fear.  She's also been very honest about sexual abuse in her own past... an aspect of that life that is frequently ignored.  I say anything that humanizes porn actresses is a good thing, even if it is through a cheap laugh at first.  From the sounds of it, it certainly could have been a more fruitful discussion than it was.

I agree that talking about Donald's member isn't productive at all.  It isn't good for political discourse or sexual ethics.  If there is any silver lining, it is that it takes down the idea that a rich guy buying time with a porn star (while his wife is pregnant with their child, no less) is manly, macho, or anything to be admired... but a mere boy.  Yeah, that point could be made without talking about his diminutive unit, but it still gets the point across.

I don't buy the "get a hooker before you go crazy" argument.  There have been threads on these boards about getting sex workers and whether it "works", and no one who has actually been there has said it works.  Celibacy is only a bad thing if you spend all your days thinking about sex and wishing you had it.  Celibacy is a natural outgrowth of self control, and even if you're in a sexual relationship, you need that control.  Just because you're in a relationship doesn't mean you don't have to hold yourself back for the sake of others.  At no point of sexual release do you get to think only of yourself and never of others.

Great points, DAL!

I just found the whole segment crude.  It reinforces ridiculous notions, such as the concept that assholes or narcissists have small members.  Though it is a bit funny, considering the awful example of lack of self control at the Republican debates, it only supports the idea that an individual?s body is up for grabs when it comes to making fun of them.  It would be like making fun of a woman for having small breasts.  Personally, I am sure there are many people who think I am an asshole.  I have an average member.  I wonder if there are any people out there who wonder about that.  Lol

All joking aside.  Is it really ever okay to joke about someone?s body?
