From Negative to Positive

I think one of the hardest things about giving up something you're attached to is filling the absent space it leaves. For me, if I want to give up something I'm attached to, "saying no" just won't cut it 99% of the time. You need something positive to say yes to, something better than what you are giving up. Right now, as I'm battling to stop reading erotica for good, I'm looking for things to replace it with. Some ideas I've had so far:

Yoga
ASMR
Non-sexual Massage
Dance
Tae Bo
Reading more novels outside the erotica genre
Baking

Does anyone else have any ideas? Maybe something that worked for you that you could recommend? Thanks!

If you enjoy reading, you could also consider reading self-help books about porn addiction, creating better habits or mindfulness. Educating yourself about the addiction goes a long way toward recovery in addition to filling your time with other activities.

Meditation. I recommend using the headspace mobile app for android or iPhone. Meditation really is magical when you stick with it.

I think you mentioned in a reply to a post I made that you write novels. How about spending more time on that? As long as it's not writing the erotica that you mentioned, lol. Only semi-lol, though, because in the past I have gotten a porn-like rush from writing short scenarios about my spanking fetish.

Yes, I do hope to get back into some of my non-sexual fanfictions/novels!

Listen to music, as long as it's not too sexual. Obviously I recommend against music videos because most of them are basically just softcore these days.

I am very disappointed in how sexualized pop music has become. I love that genre of sound, but I think they've completely over-done it. Talking Body, for example--I'm sorry, but as much as I like the tune, I just don't want to listen to those words over and over. To each their own, but I personally try not to settle for that stuff all the time. I've started listening to more Christian music, soundtrack music and lyric free music as a result. Lindsey Stirling is a favorite of mine. Not only does she have good sound, but her music videos are really cool. The Piano Guys is another neat instrumental group.

One of my favourite pieces of lyric free music is the first movement of Beethoven's moonlight sonata. I also recommend Darude if you're into dance.

Some music with lyrics that are less sexual include Britpop and Indie. Specifically Pulp, Gun's n Roses and the Killers. It's not always completely non-sexual, but it's much less sexualised than modern pop music.

I'll check those out, thanks!

I play that on my piano quite often. It's very moving to play, so much depth. Brings a tear to my eye sometimes. I play the 3rd movement too - that's just pure fun!
