Correlation vs causation

Hi all, this might not be a popular comment, but it's something I have noticed with myself, and would like to share.

Rebooting is not easy. And we've all experienced withdrawal symptoms at some point or another. Rebooting is constantly on my mind, but I think it's important not to attribute every problem from your first day of rebooting to rebooting. Sometimes the headache is really just something else, like staying out in the cold for too long. Maybe I'm just rationalizing to make myself feel better. But accepting this helps ease up some of the tension. Best of luck to you all.

I agree, in the end this battle is not about just beating porn - it's about becoming a better person, right?

I know I started watching a lot because I was insecure and this was an escape. Even if I remove the escape there are still many things to address. I think over the years I've done a lot of work on self worth and confidence and those are some of the things that are getting me through this reboot, it feels like porn was stopping my growth, like it was keeping me from being as best as I can be.

That's why I admire so many of the people on this board that work on issues in tandem - gym, diet, education, career, etc. You  need all those things and removing porn will help you but it isn't everything. A lot of the symptoms people describe like headaches or restlessness are probably only partially attributable to porn. It would be comforting to find just this one cause but if anxiety eats at everything in your life then that's as much something to address as porn use.

Just my two cents but I think it's important to build a solid structure for recovery. Addictions have a habit of morphing into other dependencies and yeah unfortunately you will need to find other things to do after you quit - just make those things healthy positive choices and you'll move forward in life. Define your own parameters for change.

Very glad you brought this up

Yeah, it's funny when I read these comments of common behaviors like
mood swings, headaches, etc.

I'm guilty of that myself and I agree that we shouldn't get carried away with every single thing that takes place while
rebooting.
But......keep in mind that this is a journal forum. A diary of sorts and that means you will describe everything that is going on during the reboot.
Us as readers reading someone's journal, we want to make that connection because we're probably going through
the same thing. Even if whatever we're experiencing at the moment wasn't a direct result of rebooting.

Thanks Viper for a good point well made. My intention was not to judge what others here are saying in their journal, but just to give a different perspective of how we might deal with things we encounter during our reboot because it was something I found to be true of myself. I encourage everyone to write down whatever they are willing to share as part of their journal to help them with their reboot. :)
