Mental Hospital

Has anyone here gone into a mental hospital to overcome a porn addiction? I am bipolar and under the care of a psychiatrist so it would be a simple matter to get in for 30 days or whatever, like a work release. No smart phone no computer just work, sleep, eat, and study overcoming porn. My insurance would probably pay most of the cost. Just wondering.

Beware: I went in 5150 before I was diagnosed bipolar.

It?s a lot easier to get in than it is to get out. (And they force feed you meds the whole way... the horrible kind.)

I wouldn?t go that route because it makes you a paper warrior. You?re relying on an unnatural set of circumstances to deal with the same issues you?re going to have to face anyway. One way or the other.

Also could affect your ability to own a gun or carry a concealed weapon. Looney bin is not recommended. It?s an AWFUL place to spend any amount of time at all. Awful. The food has drugs in it, so they demand you eat and eat a lot.

After 9 days,  your habeus corpus option expires, and then if you become an Admitted Patient, the criteria to get out gets a lot more stringent. Sometimes, your own doctor can get overruled by them and, if they prefer to keep you for 9 months they can. It?s like a prison. Anything you say can and will be used against you. You say one wrong thing to that round table of 12 doctor?s... it?s all over. They?ll keep you on lock down and report you are a danger to yourself or others. That?s all they need. And don?t believe for a minute it?s not all about money for them. They?ll figure out how to keep you on Thorazine just to fill a bed and bill the time. THEY are the crazy ones. Take my word for it!

It?s better to forget you ever considered this. Take my word for it. My experience of the State Hospital was terrifying.

Ha! By searching my name, I noticed I was called out. Yes - I have been to rehab twice. Actually I am still seeing a therapist. The cliche image of getting a 4 week isolated rehab intervention is false. Nowadays, rehab is mostly ambulatory as it is cheaper and has similar results.
I have a post-addiction ADD and Asperger diagnosis which are probably the result of a history of addiction. As for your bipolar diagnosis, this is something that needs to be taken into consideration while being in rehab. Although you might need to take meds, I actucally got addicted to ritalin and it affected me in such a way I ended up in a porn addiction. Drugs are bad, mkay?
THIS INCLUDES PRESCRIPTION DRUGS! BE CAREFUL!

Alas, might you have more questions I am eager to help.

Be well!

It doesn't seem proportionate to the problem.  It seems to me what you're looking for is more like a retreat house where you can "detox" from porn.  I know next to nothing about mental hospitals, but it doesn't seem like the right choice.

If you feel like you'll have a nervous break down and you're having trouble function in life that would be another matter.  If you're another rebooter, then maybe it is a bit overkill.

I don't know I can be helpful, but I also have bipolar and went to a mental hospital for 14 days; I had a full-blown manic breakdown. Those two weeks brought me out of the spell of porn, but then the depression hit so hard that I had to go back to it. Sorry that I'm not answering your question—I wanted to reach out as a fellow bipolar addict.
