Hi everyone, :) I'm glad to be here. Just giving an introduction about myself and some background before I begin on Reboot. I'm a 32 year old man living in Hawaii. I have a long history of porn addiction, recovery, and living porn-free. Of course, it is hard to find anyone to talk to about porn addiction or porn in my local environment, because it is sexual in nature and typically understood as obscene by the general population. Seeing that I have no other place to really talk about such things, I am looking forward to some discussion on the matter here at RB. I consider my story very successful. In 2000 I became addicted to porn and this relationship lasted for 12 years. I was able to become free of porn in 2012 and, since then, I have not used the substance nor found any reason to look back. I don't have a platform to help those that need to hear what I know, but I am fairly certain some people can benefit from the 6 years I have away from the use of porn. I am not into lecturing or telling people how to live their life. What I am interested in is developing relationships with others and from that social basis, perhaps people can learn on their own what they need to know. I still have a lot to learn about being porn-free and I am open to learning about this new way of living. I know one thing is for certain: sexuality isn't owned by porn and there are so many things that are out there... Thank you for reading. Josh.

Hi Josh. From a man trying to quit to one who has: What did you do to finally overcome your addiction? I've been an addict for slightly over 5 years and I'm far better today than I was several years ago and have learned much, but I still have a long way to go. Any techniques or life advice you could share would be amazing.

After all my struggles in the earlier days with porn addiction I boiled it all down to one sentence actually. My solution wasn't complicated. It wasn't a step program or anything that I felt was the sole impetus for change. My advice doesn't contain name brand solutions or esoteric formulations. In fact, my advice is very broad in nature and easy to understand.

I had fallen many times in my quest for a porn-free life, just like many who have before me. I found getting back on track, I learned something new, or a person might come into my life to help me. Thus, I found getting back up after a relapse is the single most important advice I can give you both. In that action of getting back to a porn-free life we tell our addictions our desires to free from it. We must prove to the addiction that we simply crave freedom. It is probably best summed up with the quote by Confucius: "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." Keep rising and forget the perfection of never relapsing!
