Good filters for Android phones?

Hi Reboot Nation!  I just got myself a shiny new Oneplus One phone, and it runs on Android Cyanogen mod.  I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good content filters that I can use on my phone, hopefully to remove temptation as much as possible.

Thanks!

You can use OpenDNS on your router so if you're connected to your home WiFi all the bad sites are blocked in the entire home connection.

Here's a few apps for Android that could be helpful:

  • K9 Web Browser (safe browser for Android and IPhone). Cost: free.
  • Net Nanny (porn blocking app for Android and IPhone). Cost: $12.99 Android/$4.99 IPhone.
  • X3watch (accountability app for Android and IPhone). Cost: free & premium version available.
  • Freedom (productivity app for Android). Cost: $4.99.
  • Keep Focus (productivity app for Android). Cost: free.

I've been using 'secure teen' (free) the last week. It blocks this forum so I assume it blocks P... I haven't actually tried to search for it yet so I can't confirm.

My experience has been there really aren't any filters for cell phones that are worth a dime.  If you have incognito mode or something similar on your phone, clicking that is all you need to do to get around the filter. I'd love to be wrong about this so if someone has a better answer, please share it.  Thanks

*bump* this is an ancient post but I'm having trouble finding filters for my phone.

I have K9 installed on my desktop computer and it works like a charm but I've been having setbacks still because I can view it on my phone!

K9 DOES NOT WORK on Android at this time. It crashes on start so I can't even set it up. (You can see for yourself it's abysmal ratings on the Play Store because of this)

I bought Trend Micro Mobile Security because it was $15 for 3 copies and came with antivirus software but it's not a very robust web filter at all and of course doesn't filter Google Image Search at all. Does anything filter Incognito image search on Android I wonder??

I'm going to try FocusOn (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mavdev.focusoutfacebook&hl=en) because it's free. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've heard Ever Accountable works quite well if you have a good accountability partner but it's not free.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Nope, FocusOn isn't what I'm looking for. Great way to avoid procrastination but only features the ability to block specific web pages.
Also I wanted to try Web Filter with App Control after looking at this list of best web filters for Android (http://appcrawlr.com/android-apps/best-apps-internet-filter) but apparently it's "not available in my country" (US).

*Update*

Trying out Kids Safe Browser (30 day trail) and it's great in that it allows for me to finely tune the filter settings (necessary for adults). The only problem is that I can still access Google Chrome and Incognito mode.

(It's so funny, incognito mode used to be my best friend, now it's my worst enemy.)

Emailed the company to ask if there was a way to block the app, we'll see what they say...

Hi I'm also using kids safe Browser and I think it's the best Software available for Android.
I'm also on cyanogenmod and you can change your wifi settings to run over the OpenDNS family shield IP so that it will only affect your phone and not your whole family  ;)!
Just go to wifi settings, long tap on your Router, change IP settings to static and fill in following IPs:
DNS 1: 208.67.222.123
DNS 2: 208.67.220.123
I assume you have root access so you should deinstall chrome and all other browsers (deinstall!!! Deactivating is not enough)! And deactivate your appstore! I even deinstalled my appstore and created a backup of it on an external SD card which I insert once a month just to update my apps.
Since I don't need the appstore that much it works perfectly fine for me like that!
To remove ads which are often triggering I use Adaway!

If you need help to setup those softwares feel free to PM me!! :)

I'm sorry to say something like this after you got yourself a New phone (great choice btw) but the best way to prevent porn is to stay away from it. Many guys here replaced their Smartphones with old flip phones but for a tech freak like me it seemed impossible first! But I managed to cut down my phone usage because I noticed that I was often hanging on my phone without any particular task to do which sometimes ended in a porn session. That's when I realised that my brain unconciously "persuaded" me to spend more time on my phone than I needed and wanted to because it associated phone time with dopamine rush!
That doesn't mean you have to go hard mode and live without Internet but be aware that real life is playing outside your display. Always ask yourself how much you need your phone (or notebook) and try only to use it when you really need to.

Hello guys,

I have been trying to stop porn use on my One Plus 6 android phone. However, the problem is that whichever porn blocking app I download only works on my main user account. In the latest android phones, there is an option of guest user account. I can easily switch to guest user and start viewing porn there without any problem even if the porn blocking app is activated on the main account. The guest account can be deleted and remade so there is no point in installing a porn blocker in guest account. Has anyone here encountered such a problem? And what has you done to overcome it? Any android geeks who can help me out? The last resort for me would be selling my phone and buying an older phone whose android does not have guest account option, but before taking that extreme measure I would want to get it fixed on my current phone.

Thanks !

I don't believe this is the case with Net Nanny (although Net Nanny has its issues).

I use Net Nanny. Net Nanny has its issues from time to time and I've had to contact tech support. Net Nanny allows the option to block Android settings. You won't be able to use guest accounts if your settings are blocked. Although the settings are blocked, it does allow access to WiFi settings and Bluetooth settings.

"Help me Focus" for android has worked wonders for me... I think for the premium feature it's like $4.00. Well worth it. The app blocks any app that you select for any amount of time. Also, with premium feature, you can't uninstall. You can even block settings and the app Help me Focus app itself.
