Let's try this

Well, I've had this addiction for 40 years, and have never been able to get free, but maybe a forum like this will help. I'll give it a try.

I'm 2 days clean. My current downfall is shift work. I get home at 1am, and wife is asleep. That computer is hard to resist. It's my "reward" after my 12 hour shifts.

A couple years ago, I got off of PMO for 3 months (with only one O in the middle... whoops), so I know that it's possible. I just have to WANT it more. Hopefully, this forum can help me keep centered in this goal, and give me more resistance.

To be successful tonight, I'm going to avoid my favorite recliner, and, of course, my computer. Gotta break this habit.

I just read another post where someone said they aren't using a porn blocker for their recovery. It got me thinking...

Last weekend, my son visited, and at my request, he installed a porn blocker on our home network. I was thrilled, because I thought it was going to make this battle so much easier.

Nope. Two days after he installed it, I did the inevitable: tested the porn blocker to see how effective it was. Result: it was crap, and I stumbled.

In retrospect... I've "tested" every porn blocker I've ever installed, and had the exact same result. I think I'm done with them. Gotta plow through this recovery without their help.

Actually, I have a blocker on my phone that has been excellent (Detoxify), but can't seem to find a decent PC blocker. It's just as well - I suppose I'll be stronger if I can beat this addiction without a PC blocker, won't I?

Best wishes as you engage in this battle!  If you haven't already done so, would recommend you review the neuroscience behind porn use in the book Your Brain on Porn or the related videos on this site.  Keep fighting, you can do this!

Just checking in for day 5. It's going fine so far. Monday blues coming up, so I have to be careful to not slip.

I don't have much experience with porn blockers. In the past, I had that mentality: "I don't need porn blockers, man! The best porn blocker should be me!" Of course, they were the words of an addict whose part of him was ready to watch porn sometime again. I have a parental control active on my network. It works pretty well but it's not perfect. I don't know what blocker could be perfect. If I wanted to find things to PMO to, I could. But it blocks the websites. If I wrote an website now, I wouldn't be able to enter it, which is excellent. But I could always use Facebook, Youtube or find pictures on Google images... That's why I'm saying that I will always find a way around it if I really want to PMO. I guess some self-blocking should be present too in my life.

Keep it up. You can do this. I would also recommend that you go on the fight the new drug's website. Lots of info and resources. An eye opener for me.
