Anybody feels lucky for discovering PMO addiction & Nofap??

Whenever nofap gets mentioned, I hear two main responses:
1) Cult
2) Pseudo Science

In general, I always search for science when it comes to believing anything I read on Internet. I can surely say that there is still paucity of "mainstream" science regarding PMO addiction. There is huge support for porn and strong denial of PMO addiction.

I got to say that Nofap is truly one of the best things in life that I feel very lucky to discover it at this point of time in my life (I'm 25). I don't care much about science when I am seeing results with my own eyes and feeling it with my own body. (even if they somehow prove nofap is fake).

I'm also so jealous of teens who are discovering nofap at very young age and correcting themselves and at the same time, I also admire them for reaching out to forums like these to seek support instead of being in denial.

I'm a strong advocate of "Its never too late". So, I actually feel lucky to discover about this at least now while I am still young instead of discovering about it at 50.

Anyone who says nofap or abstaining from PMO is a cult needs to get their fucking head examined. It's like some crazy fucker saying a flu shot won't prevent the flu.
Without the knowledge of this whole reboot thing I'd be up shit creek without a paddle. I am so lucky to have found this and I am 100% sure every other rebooter on this site would say the same
Mainstream science can go and get fucked. This works.

Years ago I had a suspicion that porn addiction was a real thing, but mostly considered it a euphemism, like you may say "addicted to chocolate" or "addicted to cartoons".  When I decided to google it and came across Gary Wilson's work I felt INCREDIBLY validated in everything I was struggling with.

A lot of people work very, very hard to fight the idea of porn addiction.  To them it is antithetical to ideas of sex positivity, and thus is a threat.  I'm not a fan of "sex positive" because it pretty much always involves over extension of sexuality and other things I won't get into, but even if you're an advocate of it, it is not a threat because porn isn't sex!  Those voices can be strong saying it is just puritanism, learned guilt, or whatever.

Ultimately it is our own experience that shows us what porn really is.  Does porn make our lives better or worse?  Our relationships?  Our sexuality?  Is it an addiction?  Apply the addiction definition "continued use despite negative consequences"... how many clearly have negative consequences and can't quit on a dime?

We aren't in a position as a culture to really discuss anything sexual in a truly scientific way.  It gets too political way too fast.  I hope some time in my life time we can see REAL science done on all of the claims on sex/gender/attraction/whatever, but I'm not holding my breath.

So yes, I am deeply thankful, every single day of my life.

The science is lacking in areas, but as Gary Wilson explains, it is mostly because there is no initial control group.  Virtually every human male (and almost every female) has seen porn.  It is impossible to compare porn addicts to anybody as everyone has seen porn.  Wilson does conclude, however, that rebooters themselves are the control group.

But science isn't perfect.  For one thing, there is always room for corruption.  Science needs to be funded afterall.  And as you can imagine, there are a lot of people who are willing to pay scientists to say that porn is not problematic at all.

Fortunately, times are changing.  Investigative journalists are breaking down walls of silence and collusion.  Experts are bringing their voices to the conversation.  Porn is the new nicotine, and more and more books are being written to tell the truth about porn.

I am optimistic.

As far as cult, goes.  Nope.  I have definitely seen cult type behaviors within the NoFap and Reboot communities, but I haven't seen anyone force anyone to do anything.

You can run your reboot any way you like.

I have seen hard moders, I have seen soft moders.  Personally I go soft mode, allowing intercourse with my wife and ejaculation during that intercourse.

I have even seen the New Age, spiritual people.  I may think they are a bit nuts, but they are allowed to do what they want.  It's their life.

Everything I have seen has led me to believe that porn is

1.  Not healthy
2.  Is problematic
3.  Is addictive

I don't want it.  I don't need it.

No thanks.

I found that no-fap is really good for you. It keeps you focused in the important, your body and mind become stronger with no-fap. Remember, porn industry is very powerful, so, you will find tons of bullshit "scientists" papers, claiming that "porn is not a real adiction". The big corporations pay the scientists to "do science" in their favor.

Just a quick question RF. Where is your journal? I cant find it. Just curious to see how you overcame your addiction.

Discovering that porn addiction exists is the best thing that happened to me because I didn't see my porn use as a problem, I only looked at masturbation as a problem. I wanted to quit masturbation and orgasm but I edged and watched porn when I didn't ejaculate. It definitely made me realize the whole problem.

Nope NoFap and rebooting are the real.thing.  Do some nofappers take things to.extremes?  Yeah.  And they have the freedom to do that.

I have experienced two different cults.  Campus Crusade for Christ (now called Cru) in college.  And recently, Alcoholics Anonymous.  The first is the genuine article.  It is a cult, but it is accepted on university campuses because of religious freedom.  The second is similarly accepted  as a spiritual form of therapy.  It is basically faith  healing.

I can tell you that Nofap is not a cult.
