I'm a grateful recovering sex addict

Hi, my name is rob. I'm a 44 yr old sex addict from Chicago. I've been sober sine November 12th of this year. I'm so happy i found this forum. I want nothing more than to be sober from my 30+ year addiction. My addiction includes porn, masturbation, affairs and also sorts of kinky to feed my addiction.

Let me be the first to say I understand and that we welcome you to the site. It has been close to 50 years that I have been in this mess in one way or another and I agree. It is time to change.

While change may be difficult, it is helpful to have others that are in the same boat and are working towards that same goal.

Peace

Bob,

Thanks for welcoming me. i just found this and i'm hoping this will be a great tool to recovery. Have a great sober day!

Affairs, masturbation, porn, kink?  Sounds like we have a lot in common!  Welcome home.

Post often.  Read other journals, and learn about the science about sex addiction.  I fee like Orpheus emerging from the depths of Hades.  There is a way out.  Just don't look back!

Day 29

These last 28 days have been a roller coaster from hell. I'm grateful that i'm sober. The lust is everywhere and not giving in has taken every ounce of energy i have. God is great and will continue to be sober through him guidance. Have a great sober day.

Thank you for your post.  I too am struggling with lust being everywhere.  I feel like I can't avoid it and it is sapping all of my energy.  It's hard to get the daily things done that I need to get done.  Congrats on your success.

You are at 30 days today.  In a 12-step group you would get a chip!  You deserve it.

Keep up the good work.  How are you doing with some of these other behaviors, i.e. affairs, etc?

Uncreatedlight, Today is day 30!  i will be getting my 1 month chip. Thanks for checking in. i've stopped the affairs and all other toxic behavior. Lust is been the only behavior i've had trouble with to this point. Today is a great day to be sober.

Woohoo!  So glad to hear it.  I think giving up the affair was harder for me than the porn.  At any rate, you are renouncing something you highly cherished and succeeding.  It's not easy.  Keep up the great work.

Day 32 of sobriety!  This forum is helping me and keeping me accountable. i feel great. My wife and i are closer than we've ever been. I pray to God everyday to help guide me through another sober day. I've lost 15 pounds since being sober and working out. I'm feeling so much more healthy.

Hockeyref - thanks for posting, and you are an inspiration to us, having recognized all of your challenges and taking action to address them.

Having encountered many of the same issues over the years (I am 43) and having developed a full and deep understanding of them and how difficult they can be (thank you therapy, books, etc) I am more than happy to provide any assistance or advice that worked for me to get me to this point (I'll give myself a "B" but not even close to an "A-" or above that).

Your check ins and journals are great steps.....what else have you done to eliminate the triggers and temptations that have caused you pain and issues in the past?  What are your plans to keep them at bay so that you dont slip and wind up spiraling back into the problems that originally got you here?

jjo7, Thanks for your response. I've started doing yoga, i listen to sex addiction podcasts, do SA call in meetings, go to SA meetings, reads a lot and go to therapy. I've also turned my life over to God. I've become extremely active in my church. I feel great. 59 days sober. I will receive my 2 month coin at my Sunday meeting.  I'm very grateful to be here and be sober. God Bless.

hockeyref33,

Great work!  You're doing great!  So well said about turning your life over to God for this struggle and everything, it's been one of the toughest things I have had to do. But during this reboot I have finally (with much reluctance) released control and given it over to God.  It has been a painful recovery with a bad illness with tremendous suffering but I wouldn't have changed it, it was God's way of allowing me to reach rock bottom before he began the process of building me back up. I am now 109 days free from PMO and my health is starting to improve. Indeed God is great and great is God!  I am praying for you!
