Whenever nofap gets mentioned, I hear two main responses:
1) Cult
2) Pseudo Science
In general, I always search for science when it comes to believing anything I read on Internet. I can surely say that there is still paucity of "mainstream" science regarding PMO addiction. There is huge support for porn and strong denial of PMO addiction.
I got to say that Nofap is truly one of the best things in life that I feel very lucky to discover it at this point of time in my life (I'm 25). I don't care much about science when I am seeing results with my own eyes and feeling it with my own body. (even if they somehow prove nofap is fake).
I'm also so jealous of teens who are discovering nofap at very young age and correcting themselves and at the same time, I also admire them for reaching out to forums like these to seek support instead of being in denial.
I'm a strong advocate of "Its never too late". So, I actually feel lucky to discover about this at least now while I am still young instead of discovering about it at 50.
